FOR PARTS/REPAIR - Although the date and time can be set without issue and the crown winds smoothly the movement tends to stop sporadically. Sometimes it will run consistently for hours before the seconds hand stops. When this happens and the watch is then gently shaken the movement will resume running, keeping relatively accurate time. Given this and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. This seldom seen vintage 1960's Paul Le Grande has a black "T SWISS MADE T" signed dial that has aged naturally and uniquely to a starry night effect.
In my humble opinion it's truly special and presents beautifully. The lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The stainless steel bezel shows wear and rotates smoothly bidirectionally.
The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "SHOCKPROTECTED WATERPRESSURE TESTED 666 FEET INCABLOC" with "ALL STAINLESS STEEL" followed by "SWISS MADE, ""679" and "890760" stamped in the center. The crystal shows scratching and dust/debris on its underbelly. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale the case back on this one is torqued too tight for me to remove.
The automatic movement with quickset date function will sometimes run consistently for hours at a time before stopping. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks. The non-screwdown crown winds smoothly. Given that the movement tends to stop sporadically and considering its unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39 mm including the replacement crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs.
Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel is approximately 8 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10 mm. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.
