The date and time can be set without issue the crown does not wind, hence the manual wind movement does not run. At a minimum the mainspring needs to be replaced. Given this and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is required.
This seldom seen vintage 1970's complete set Kienzle has a matte black "MADE IN GERMANY" signed dial that shows peeling around the edges. The lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The black plastic bezel, which shows wear, does not rotate.
The chrome-plated case shows honest wear, oxidation and brassing. The inside of the case back is stamped KIENZLE GERMANY. The crystal is heavily scratched. The 17 jewels unadjusted "KIENZLE GERMANY 058b25" stamped manual wind movement with quickset date is clean but does not run. While the time and date can be set without issue the crown cannot be wound. The quickset date function works flawlessly by rolling over a new date and then manually moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 22 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. Given that the movement does not run as the crown cannot be wound and considering its unknown service history (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11 mm. This watch comes with its original box, two (2) spare bezels, guarantee and instruction booklet, both of which are in German. All ephemera show signs of wear. Given that the movement does not run as the crown cannot be wound and considering its unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now.
