Vintage Croton Vindicator Watch withMidsize Clamshell All SS Case FOR PARTS/REPAIR

FOR PARTS/REPAIR - The seconds hand will run for only a few seconds at a time. After the crown is wound and then the watch is gently spun face down on a flat surface. A complete overhaul is required. This seldom seen vintage 1940/50's Croton Vindicator has a "SWISS" only signed dial that has, in my humble opinion, aged beautifully and uniquely over time to an orange hue. The original lume, which remains fully intact and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a warm butterscotch patina.

Clamshell all stainless steel lugholes case shows minor wear and oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped "WATERPROOF" and "SHOCK RESISTANT" with "CROTON" followed by "VINDICATOR, ""STAINLESS STEEL" and "V 153764" stamped in the center. The crystal needs to be replaced.

While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches that I put up for sale given that this is a clamshell case I do not want to attempt to remove the screws without having the movement serviced. Based on similar examples I've had over the years the movement is likely a manual wind AS 1194. While the time can be set without issue and the crown winds smoothly the movement will only run for a few seconds at a time after the crown is wound and then the watch is gently spun face down on a soft, flat surface.

Given that the movement does not run as it should and considering its unknown service history (the case screws show no clear signs of ever having been removed) a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 30 mm excluding the crown, approximately 33 mm including the crown and approximately 16 mm between the lugs.

Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
