I got this watch from a watchmaker closed down shop from the parts box. The watch has these problems that I can see. Tested the watch with a 344 Energizer battery, it does not hum at all. The stem doesnt not come out so the watch cannot set. In the position the stem is now if you turn it then the hands just spin around.
There is a small crack in the bezel near 30. The watch movement does look complete but not guaranteed, it was in a box. Parts so there may be some parts missing etc.... Or it was tried repaired and failed.
The good parts about the watch. Dial is in very good condition.
Case is in very good condition. The bezel is in good condition with the. Of some paint missing at the arrow and a small crack near 30.
The hands look in great condition with all lume still in tact, very nice patina. Very scarce but parts for the 2181 can still be found (for now). Used for parts or repair. Any watch stands shown in the images DO NOT come with the item, they are for presentation purposes only for this listing. Please examine all photos as they are part of the item description. If I have missed any information in the description it is not intentional. Not tested and not guaranteed. In General mechanical and vintage watches need maintenance and servicing, buyers should expect to have to bring these watches into a watchmaker the same as changing the oil in your car to keep it running although not as often as a car. Mechanical watches are prone to damage if you hit them to hard, drop them, shake them to hard or exert any excessive force on them these have fine moving parts that are often moving at a high speed actions such as using a mechanical watch when hammering things or punching things..
These are examples only and. How do vintage watches keep time?
Vintage mechanical watches do not keep exact time like its quartz counterparts, expect that watches that we list as working and keeping time unless otherwise specified run +/. 1-3 mins a day, we consider this to be acceptable for most vintage watches. Note: we do not time our watches to seconds lost or gained in a day, if you need something that accurate a quartz watch is more for you. If the watch in the listing says its tested then I have manually wound the watch and watched it for at least 12 hours.
I do not have any sort of automatic watch winder to test automatic functions, generally unless stated I have only done a manual wind test. If it is an automatic I will generally shake the watch until it starts ticking and then watch it for an hour. After that I will do the manual wind test as per above unless otherwise specified.
Vintage watches and mechanical watches need to be services often by a certified watchmaker to keep them running well, similar to your car and oil changes. Unless specified in the listing watches are not serviced and will need to go to a watchmaker for a checkup and service to be good time keepers and continue running smoothly. Outside North America: May take up to 30 days. I cannot change those numbers. Thank you if you have read everything to this point!
