Vintage 1970's Gruen World Time All SS Diver with512 CA Mvmt, Runs FOR PARTS/REPAIR

FOR PARTS/REPAIR - The 512 CA (successor to the 510) manual wind movement runs about 10 minutes slow by the end of its approximate 40 hour power reserve period. While the crown winds buttery smooth setting the time is an exercise in patience as the hands don't want to engage, likely suggesting an issue with the cannon pinion.

Given the difficulty in setting the time I'm unable to determine whether or not the movement has a semi-quickset date function. At a minimum a complete overhaul is required. This seldom seen vintage 1970's Gruen Precision World Time diver has an orange accented black "SWISS MADE" signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows wear.

Majority of the imperfections seen are on the damaged crystal. The lume no longer glows after being exposed to bright light.

As clearly seen in the pictures all the hands show heavy wear and paint loss. The plastic bezel, which shows considerable wear and rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, presents nicely. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear and minor oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped GRUEN PRECISION - STAINLESS STEEL CASE. " The inside of the case back is stamped "STAINLESS STEEL" followed by "GRUEN WATCH Co, 510 RSS CA" and "MADE IN FRANCE. The crystal needs to be replaced. After recently winding the non-screwdown crown 31 full revolutions the movement ran about 10 minutes slow by the end of its approximate 40 hour power reserve period. This watch measures approximately 35 mm excluding the crown, approximately 38 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10 mm. A complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.

Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any restoration/servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 24 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.
