Vintage 1970's Cronel Day-Date Diver Watch withBox, Papers, Hangtag FOR PARTS/REPAIR
FOR PARTS/REPAIR - The manual wind movement does not run as the crown cannot be wound. At a minimum it's likely that the mainspring needs to be replaced. The time can be set without issue and both the day and date wheels roll over, although the day wheel doesn't align as it should. A complete overhaul is required. This vintage 1970's Cronel, which came from the estate of its original owner, has a blue. "T SWISS MADE T" signed dial that's in decent condition and the lume emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light. The silver bezel, which shows wear and rotates smoothly bidirectionally, presents nicely. The chrome-plated case shows honest wear with no visible signs of brassing. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "SWISS MADE - SHOCKPROTECTED - WATERRESISTANT - STAINLESS STEEL BACK" with "CRONEL" followed by "GUARANTEED 5 ATM TESTED" and "500" stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped "CRONEL WATCH" followed by CO LTD SWISS. The crystal needs to be replaced. The 1 jewel unadjusted Swiss CRONEL WATCH CO. Stamped manual wind movement with semi-quickset date function does not run as the crown cannot be wound.
The semi-quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 22 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39.5 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. The pliable black rubber strap shows heavy wear.
The box, papers and hangtag have survived well. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now.
Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 23 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.
