Vintage 1970's Avalon Stieff Day-Date Diver Watch withAll SS Case FOR PARTS/REPAIR

He movement does not run consistently nor does the day wheel roll over as it should. Given this and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. This seldom seen vintage 1970's Avalon Stieff has a glossy black "SWISS" only signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows age-related wear.

The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The black bezel, which shows wear and rotates smoothly bidirectionally, presents nicely. The all stainless steel case, which appears to have retained its original finish, shows honest wear with minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "ALL STAINLESS STEEL SHOCKRESISTANT WATERRESISTANT" with "11 - 335" stamped in the center.

The inside of the case back is stamped "AVALON" followed by "WATCH CO" and SWISS. The crystal needs to be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "AVALON WATCH Co" stamped AS 2066 automatic movement with quickset day and date functions is clean and runs, albeit not consistently, and the day wheel does not roll over as it should. The quickset date function works flawlessly by pulling out the crown to the first position and then turning it clockwise until the desired date has been reached. The quickset day function should work in precisely the same manner with the exception of turning the crown counterclockwise.

The screwdown crown, which winds smoothly, unscrews and screws back down perfectly as it should. Given that the movement does not run consistently nor does the day wheel roll over as it should a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 35 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm.

Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now.
