There is a metal ring, which likely came from the movement through the day/date window, moving loose on the dial. A complete restoration is required. This vintage 1969 Bulova Caravelle, which came from the estate of its original owner, has a matte black "T SWISS T" signed dial that shows wear.
The original lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The all stainless steel case shows considerable wear with insignificant signs of oxidation. The crystal needs to be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "CARAVELLE WATCH, ""11 OKACB" and "M9" stamped AS 1906 automatic movement with semi-quickset date function does not run. The semi-quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. This movement does not have a semi-quickset day function.
While the crown winds smoothly pulling it out to set the day/date/time is a bit difficult. I've found that using the end tip of a ruler to gently push out the crown works best. This watch measures approximately 40 mm excluding the crown, approximately 44 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the mid-case, is approximately 8.5 mm.Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.
Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any restoration/servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 17 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.
